I use my friends list more as a collection of people whose journals I want to check on daily. Some of them are friends, some are just people I want to keep track of, and some are there just because I find their journals interesting. If I've friended you and you don't friend me back, I won't be at all put out. If for some reason you really don't want to be on my friends list, drop me a line and I promise I won't be terribly offended.
Similarly, if you friend me and I don't reciprocate, don't be offended. I may not have noticed it yet, I may have just added you to my bookmarks folder of people I want to read but not on a daily basis, but whatever the reason it probably doesn't reflect on you personally.
